Tomahawk

Raised by the Wampanoag Tribe, near Gay Head, these oysters come from clean Menemsha Pond, where four-knot currents constantly wash the oysters with fresh phytoplankton. Even the freshwater springs in this area are famed for their curative powers—who knows what impact this has on the oysters, which have a bright, lemony finish unusual in New England. Certainly the ochre-streaked cliffs of Gay Head helps imbue the water with clay and minerals. Note that these have been defunct for several years. There is, however, a new Tomahawk oyster on the market.)
